From a young age I loved property and interior design. From designing my first bedroom makeover at age 15, to a cash-strapped grad renovating my first live in flip on a shoe-string budget, I learned the art of creating luxury and comfortable spaces on a tight budget. This budget conscious approach to renovating is at my core, and something that has been useful throughout the years when renovating rental properties with a return on investment in mind. Although now I have also transitioned into larger, more luxury renovations, such as this below at The Botanist in Walker.
My husband Harvey and I bought our first short term rental in 2020, a 1 bed 1 bath condo which had been previously run as a short term rental, we completely renovated it ourselves and re-opened it as The Hygge Suite. We increased the annual revenue by 283% and had a cash-on-cash return of 297%. We were hooked! Not only was it a great additional source of income, but we also had a beautiful vacation home for ourselves, for FREE!
I decided to join the short term rental Mastermind – STR Secrets – hosted by Mike Sjogren in 2021 to really up my game in the STR space. After buying more short term rentals, and hosting hundreds of happy guests, I realized this was fast becoming something I wanted to do full time. Short term rentals are where my heart lies. It combines everything I love: business, marketing, interior design, real estate, hospitality, and helping others. So in 2022, after an almost 20 year career in Marketing, I opened The Works Bnb to expand on what we learned over the past few years and to share our knowledge (and the mistakes) with other investors and vacation home owners. So that you too can make additional rental incomes, or have a family vacation home for free.
Today my team and I manage vacation and short term rentals throughout Minnesota. We contract with over 10 service providers throughout Minnesota to provide high quality local service to the areas we manage in. I hold a Real Estate license with the State of Minnesota and I’m Brokered by BRIX Real Estate. Since I started I’ve designed 90 rooms, generated over $0.5M in revenue, managed over 1800 nights booked, hosted over 500 bookings, which resulted in 281 five star reviews (out of 294 reviews), and Airbnb Superhost Status 12 quarters in a row.
